PickaPlant’s about to launch!
Hello there, PickaPlanters!
It’s great to be able to say that next week, after months of careful planning, nail biting and sleepless nights we’ll be switching on all the features of PickaPlant, the gardening website for today’s new home owners.
The concept behind PickaPlant is unique. We saw our friends settling down and moving into new houses and making their mark on them to create a home, something original and personal to them. But one area remained a problem. What about the garden?
For many people, creating something individual and to be proud of outside the patio doors was a mystery. But worse, the conventional garden centres seemed to cater for the older generation and looked too intimidating for our new home owners.
Maybe getting lost in a sea of beige, staring at rows of grubby plants and getting the new mini’s boot full of compost and worms on the way home probably wouldn’t appeal to PickaPlant’s potential customers!
Take a stroll around a virtual garden
So welcome to PickaPlant. We’ve taken what you want to achieve and created a really cool way of doing it. No special knowledge, no impromptu Latin lessons, no hassle. Just click on what you want, the size and the colour and its yours, straight to your door.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be expanding the idea to make PickaPlant a place where you’ll be coming back to.
We’ve been burning the midnight oil looking at every inch of the new service, but realise that even the best ideas can have a few hiccups. So we’re hoping that nothing causes you, our customers any problems, but rest assured, we care very much about your relationship with us and will be jumping on any teething troubles quickly.
We wish you all a great experience with PickaPlant and your new garden!

Well its a relief to hear that someone will be providing plants over the web. What’s the quality like and how long will it take to receive them?

Hi, Dave,
Great to hear from you and welcome to PickaPlant!
The quality of all of our plants is exceptional. We hope to process all orders within the day and send them out to you within 48 hours of processing.
All our plants are cultivated in a garden nursery and are garden centre quality, far better than mail order products which look far smaller, are forced and are generally far inferior.
We’ll be setting up a membership scheme for regular customers where we can exchange views, share experiences and get special offers. Keep looking at the site for details of this!
Happy PickaPlanting!

Could you please tell me what plants come with the starter packs?

Hi, Bernard, welcome!
As you can appreciate, PickaPlant is new and we’ve not got everything on board just yet.
House plants are something we’re planning to offer at the end of the gardening season as we’re putting all our efforts into outdoor tasks at the moment.
If you have a specific requirement, or would like some guidance what to buy, then let us know and we’ll do our best to get you some information which hopefully, you may then want to buy from us!
Look out for news coming up here on new products. We’ve got a lot in the pipeline!

Hey David - a good question!
The garden starter packs are something we came up with to help you get a range of plants into your garden at a reduced cost and with the minimum of effort in selecting individual items.
The packs are great value and contain a wide range of our most popular plants based around a theme, such as herbs, shrubs, etc.
The great thing about the packs is that they are individual. Our nurseries have access to some amazing, garden show quality plants that aren’t sold “en-masse”, they are individual specimens we’ve chosen as of interest and add style and colour.
So, we can’t always say what’s in the packs all the time, but rest assured, they will be the highest quality, as is everything we offer.
The garden pack descriptions are currently being re-written to give a better idea of what’s being supplied, so watch this space!

Hi, I’m thinking of buying a garden starter pack. Can you tell me when the best time to plant this will be?

Hi, Brian,
Starter packs are a great way to transform your garden. Last year, Easter saw a lot of people out in their gardens as the spring was exceptionally mild. This year, we’ve had the opposite so Easter would not have been a pleasant time to be gardening!
The difference between our plants and normal mail order is that ours are mature and therefore hardier than a tiny, just sprouting “plug”. So as long as you can stand the chilly wind, your starter pack will be just fine.
We have a core range of the top twenty plants in the pack and the rest are made up of some very special examples you wouldn’t expect to be available and certainly not at this price. For the specials, make a note of the planting advice as some may ask you to protect from frost with a cover.
