PickaPlant privacy policy
When we were creating PickaPlant, we set out to create a quality gardening website for people who are proud of their homes and lifestyle. PickaPlant's been designed to provide a new gardening experience for our visitors, not just what other sites are doing.
When it came to writing a privacy policy, we could have just stuck in a standard bunch of waffle. But personal privacy is something we feel strongly about, so we wanted to show that we respect yours, too. So here's PickaPlant's privacy policy statement.
how we treat your information
The most important component of any website is the visiting customer. After all, you are who we created the site to attract and who ultimately support us. How we treat you and the information you give us is our paramount concern. We want you to trust us and to see us a valuable resource that you'll come back to use time and time again.
The best way to ensure that is to treat you not as an account number but in the same way that we treat our friends. You don't hand out your friends phone numbers or address details to complete strangers, so we won't do that to you, either. Here is a summary of the way we'll be using any information you give us as part of your transactions with us, or in any communication you have with us.
Name, address and phone details: These details are kept securely on our servers for internal use only by PickaPlant's own Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system. We use the information to process your orders and maintain a record of what you've bought from us and to improve what we offer to you in the future.
Credit card and payment information: This sensitive data is subject to legal and regulatory constraints that PickaPlant as a UK trading organisation is required to manage securely. We use a highly secure card processing gateway provided by one of the financial world's most respected companies. Your data will be kept securely when you supply it to us. We're subject to legal audit.
PickaPlant partners and advertisers: From time to time, you'll see other companies advertising on the PickaPlant site. These will be carefully chosen to complement PickaPlant's offering and to add value when you visit. We will never pass your information to them, nor exchange anything with them about what you've bought from us.
External links to partner websites: When you click a link to another, third party site from PickaPlant, you leave our jurisdiction. We can't exercise any control over what happens on third party sites, so we want to make this clear now.
Keeping in touch, newsletters, emails and special offers: We'd like to let you know about what's happening on PickaPlant, so with your consent, we'd like to send you updates from time to time that may be of interest to you. It's entirely up to you whether or not you want to receive such news, so we offer you this as a service only, not as a requirement. Which leads us to...
Opting in and out of promotional information: When you provide your details, we'll ask you specifically if you want to receive carefully managed promotional information from us. Declining this will be respected absolutely. We'll give you the chance to opt out with every mailing you receive from us, should you change your mind.
Visit statistics and site usage management: As a commercial website, we use network intelligence software to understand how our site is being used. This captures benign, freely sent information, such as your IP address, geographical location, time of day, pages viewed and how you found us. This helps us tune the PickaPlant service to you, our customers. The data's kept securely, is only available to us and we never pass it on to any third party.
Website cookies: These are small code applets placed into your browser, intended to maintain a relationship with a visitor. They can tune a website's response to a particular visitor and provide information about how a site is used. They can also be abused and used to track a visitor's browsing habits. For that reason, PickaPlant doesn't use cookies.
PCI compliance and security: Recently, the EEC introduced a set of regulations and issued 12 rules of data management for all companies using credit cards as a payment vehicle. PickaPlant respects this and will do it's utmost to be PCI compliant at all times to protect your credit card information.
